Equality works both ways as WI appoints first male secretary

30 Dec

The Women’s Institute (WI) has made headlines by appointing its first ever male secretary – proving that equality can and should work both ways.

The Telegraph reports that, while there are no rules preventing former RAF administrator Peter Bryant being appointed as secretary of the Gloucestershire branch, he will not be allowed to join the 205,000 women-only membership of the WI.

He is reported to have impressed other members by bringing homemade apple pies along to meetings – and is quoted as saying that the WI is about far more than jam and Jersualem.
